I See You Mama

November 21, 2018

I see you Mama.

The birthday party you threw, the family portraits, the trip to Disney – shoot just a trip to the park. While others see the smiling faces and enjoy the final product of your efforts, I see how hard that must have been —  to pick out the outfits, get the whole family ready, make sure everyone had what they needed, all the planning that went into that day, the breakdown you may or may not have had, the lack of sleep you’ve had.

I see you mama and I hope you see me. Today was hard, really hard. This isn’t exactly the picture I had planned for this afternoon. Right about now we should be walking out of my dads cotton field with an SD card full of family photos. But I’m here, with two raw photos of what motherhood is. Motherhood is feeling like you do everything but nothing gets done, motherhood is getting 5 minutes in the bathroom just so you can cry to yourself, motherhood is constantly doubting if you’re doing it right. Motherhood can be painful (I see you breastfeeding mamas), Motherhood is feeling guilty for venting, Motherhood is ________ (you fill in the blank)

I see you mama and I hope you see me, because it’s on these really hard days that you realize you’re not weak, you are strong. You have your cry, wipe the tears and get back out there. Motherhood makes you stronger than you ever imagined you could be, motherhood challenges you, motherhood makes you selfless, motherhood is these captured moments by a window in an drool & booger covered sweatshirt that have wiped a few tears today (yours included) – when your baby wants you and only you & knowing you’ll cherish those more than any cotton field photos with coordinated outfits.

Every stage of motherhood has it’s challenges, but as mothers we are ready to meet them head on because the love we have for our children is one of the most powerful things you will ever experience and at the end of those really hard days bet your bottom dollar, when the baby finally goes to sleep, it takes everything you have not to go scoop her up and love on her.

I see you single mamas, married mamas, multiple mamas, grieving mamas, new mamas, seasoned mamas, working mamas, stay at home mamas, future mamas….

I see you mama, you’re doing great.
